This week’s Top Ten Tuesday from The Broke and Bookish is the top new series I want to start.
This is a hard one for me, mostly because I’m in the business of reducing my TBR, so I’d rather not even think about all the great new series out there that I should be reading. With that in mind, I’m going rogue and listing those series that I want to finish rather than start, seeing as these are all, technically if not physically, already on my TBR pile.
- The MaddAddam Trilogy by Margaret Atwood – I read Oryx and Crake years ago and really enjoyed it, and I’ve been waiting for the final book to come out before I dip back into them
- Divergent trilogy by Veronica Roth – I’ve read the first and second books and liked them enough to continue on (the fact that I read all three 50 Shades books goes a long way to showing just how appalling a series would have to be for me to abandon it)
- The Edith Trilogy by Frank Moorhouse – incredible series of books about an Australian woman working in the League of Nations in the 20s and finding her feet in the world of diplomacy. I’ve read the first two in the series and am looking forward to the third one being pulled out of the lucky dip jar
- Gilead trilogy by Marilynne Robinson – I’ve raved ad nauseam on this blog about Gilead and Home, so stay tuned for my next gushing instalment after I’ve read the final book, Lila
- Outlander by Diana Gabaldon – to be perfectly honest, I’m not sure I’m going to finish this series. I enjoyed the first book, but I am insanely intimidated by how many books there are to go (not to mention how many pages there are in each of those books)
- Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead – I’m about three or four books into this series, and I’ll definitely keep going (despite my reservations about certain events that just happened and what they mean for the future). These are the books I turn to when I have a bit of a reading slump, so while I don’t want to wish a reading slump on myself, at least I have a trusty cure if it does happen.
Wow, I thought that was going to be much harder than it was – I’ve always seen myself as someone who doesn’t really read that many series so I actually thought it would struggle to think of any. That’s me – as self-aware as ever. 😉
What series are you starting (or finishing)?

I need to finish quite a few series too and yet I keep starting new ones! I wasn’t the biggest fan of Allegiant but I like to finish series to get that closure even if I don’t think I will love the book. The ending of the Vampire Academy series is much better!

I know what you mean about closure – I’m not LOVING the Divergent books, but I definitely need to finish them so I know what happens!

Oh I didn’t know that Margaret Atwood has a book series! Anyway interesting choice of books. I’ve thought about Outlander since it’s getting a lot of publicity online but like you, the thick books intimidate me. Divergent the movie was entertaining but as a budding psychologist, I don’t really like ‘the personality test defining who you are’ plot. So I won’t be reading the book.
As for me, I’d like to start reading Emma Chase’s series starting with Tangled. I’d also like to check out Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series. Maybe Narnia or A Series of Unfortunate Events.

I’ve never read any Terry Pratchett and always thought that I should – I might check out the Discworld series.

Great picks. I have been dying to read Outlander for the last few months, have been hearing nothing but amazing things about the book and the TV show. I also really want to read the VA series. I hope you can get to some of these soon 🙂 TTT.

Yep, the Outlander TV series is pretty good – it’s a fairly good representation of the book. But I wouldn’t consider myself a massive fan, so I don’t know how the ‘true’ fans of the book feel about the show – it’s worth checking out though.

I really need to read Outlander. I have read Divergent and will continue with the rest soon. Vampire Academy, I read first and gave up, just isn’t my type.

The first Outlander was really enjoyable – but the books are all sooooooo long, so it’s a big commitment!!
