This week’s Broke and Bookish Top Ten Tuesday is the books we would like see made into a TV series or a movie. This is such a hard list. We all know that adaptations are risky (most of us have found that out the hard way – I’m looking at you Vampire Academy), and as much as we may want to see our favourite books up there on the big screen, we know deep down that it’s unlikely it will bring us anything but disappointment and regret. Which is why my list doesn’t really contain any of my all-time special books – these are the books that I think would work well on screen, but also ones that I don’t have too much of an emotional stake in.
- The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons – ok, I lied, because I have a fair amount of emotion invested in this book (and when I say fair amount, I mean a shit tonne), but I also think it would make a cracking movie, or even a mini-series – drag out the magic for as long as possible.
- Me Before You by Jojo Moyes – I’d certainly be interested to see how Hollywood dealt with the ending
- On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta – this might already be in the process of becoming a movie. If it isn’t, it should be
- All the Birds Singing by Evie Wyld – if only to address all the questions/mysteries the book left unanswered that they couldn’t get away with on screen
- The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton – ok, this is another one that I would absolutely have an emotional stake in – but if it was done right, with a good enemble cast, it could be such a great mini-series
- Swamplandia by Karen Russell – if they can make a success out of Life of Pi, then they can definitely nail this one I reckon
- Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins – I didn’t particularly like this book, but I do think it would make a good teen, romance movie
- Without Warning by John Birmingham – lots of action and violence. Get Bruce Willis on board and you got yourself a blockbuster I reckon.
- The Circle by Dave Eggers – a good opportunity to capitalise on a good idea, but a poorly written book
- Where’d You Go, Bernadette? by Maria Semple – I’d be surprised if this doesn’t happen, if it isn’t in the works already. The book read a lot like a script anyway.
What books do you want to see on the big screen?

I definitely think Anna and the French Kiss would do well as a movie! Especially if they showed lots of Paris in it while filming. I’d watch it just for the Paris. XD *longs after Paris*

Totally – if they actually filmed it in Paris, it could be really beautiful. Sigh…Paris…

On the Jellicoe Road is one of my favourite books of all time, I love Melina Marchetta’s writing, do you think it’d be a good movie or tv series?

It could probably work as both to be honest – you could definitely flesh out some of the storylines, to make it into a TV show.

Anna and the French Kiss would make a fantastic movie, and I would love to see The Circle as a film, that would be really interesting to see what they did with that.

Anna and the French Kiss is the only one I’ve read! I also wasn’t a huge fan of it but I do agree, I think it would make a cute movie. The Bronze Horseman, Me Before You, and On the Jellicoe Road are on my TBR list!
Thanks for stopping by!

Are they making a movie of it? I’m such a dummy – how do these things pass me by? 😉

I just picked up The Luminaries at my library sale but I haven’t started it yet. The reviews of it are good and it sounds really intriguing.

I didn’t think of Anna and the French Kiss when I was making my list, but I agree that’d be a cute movie.
