Top Ten Spooky Books

This week’s Broke and Bookish Top Ten Tuesday is all about Halloween and scary books, of which I have read, ummm, let me think. NONE! I absolutely hate anything scary – books, movies, everything. I still have nightmares from the few scary movies I have seen and I avoid horror and crime at all costs. However, I don’t want to be such a scaredy cat – part of me really wants to be able to read scary books, so this week I have put together a list of the books I would read if I wasn’t so weak!

  1. Misery by Stephen King
  2. American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis
  3. Broken Monsters by Lauren Beukes
  4. Dracula by Bram Stoker
  5. House of Leaves by Mark Z Danielewski
  6. Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist
  7. The Shining by Stephen King (and, let’s face it, pretty much everything this guy has ever written)
  8. The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris
  9. World War Z by Max Brooks
  10. Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury

What are some of your favourite scary books – or do I not want to know???

  1. I’m a total scaredy cat too! I have actually had a copy of The Shining for ages and ages, but haven’t yet plucked up the courage to read it. I’ve wanted to read something by Stephen King since I read his book about writing, so I really am going to have to give it a try soon…if I dare! 🙂

    • Snap! That’s EXACTLY why I really want to read something by Stephen King as well. I loved On Writing and thought he had some great advice, but I feel like I should have read his fiction before I take his advice. I’ve been trying to work out which of his is the least scary. I think that 11/22/63 might be the go, as I think that’s just a thriller not a horror! I’ll look out for your review of The Shining 😀
